Upcoming Event: Harnessing Microbiomes for a Sustainable Food System
European research is revealing how microbiomes can transform food systems, but scientific advances alone are not enough to drive change. The event “Harnessing Microbiomes for a Sustainable Food System: From Farm to Fork and Beyond” is a dynamic one-day workshop dedicated to exploring the latest advances and applications in microbiome research across the food system. Organised by eight EU-funded projects in the Microbes4SustainableFoods cluster, this event will present key results, challenges and opportunities from these EU funded projects, establishing an important dialogue how future research can translate into meaningful policy recommendations and impact.

This workshop is designed for policymakers, farmers, company representatives, consumer organisations and researchers interested in advancing their understanding and collaboration in microbiome science and applications for innovation on the field, in food production and the wider food system. The program features:
- Keynote presentations from the European projects and EC representatives
- Roundtables on human, environmental, and applied microbiomes with policymakers, food industries and researchers
- Interactive discussions and ample networking opportunities
- Collaborative exploration of how microbiomes can drive sustainability, innovation, and resilience in food systems.
With a focus on the interconnectedness of microbiomes—from soil and plants to humans and the environment—this event is designed to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration, inspire actionable solutions, to identify policy needs and barriers to uptake and discuss recommendations for a sustainable future food-system.
